IDC recognizes that accessing doula care isn't financially feasible for all families. While NYS is piloting a doula program to have both birth and postpartum doulas paid for through medicaid, this is not a state-wide initiative. IDC has a multi-step planto increasing access to doula care that is both sustainable and affordable for both families and doulas. IDC doulas regularly offer sliding scales and free births for families who are experiencing a loss, teens, and others on a case-by-case basis. In addition to this efforts, we want to offer more!
We are really proud and excited to announce: The IDC Doula Accessibility Fund!
In the past, we had amazing community supporters who participated in our "Friends of the Doulas Program" which allowed us to host community education events, networking events, and stabilize our collective. With that support, we have grown as an organization and are ready to take our collective to the next step.
This is how it'll work: Donors can choose to have their donation to the Ithaca Doula Collective go into a general fund, allocated to a birth fund orto a postpartum support fund. Families who are income eligible (participating in the MOMS, TP3, WIC, unemployment, or some equivalent program) can fill out a simple application to hire a birth or postpartum doula through our website. The money from these funds will pay the doula, and the families are able to access doula care for FREE!
The doulas have also reduced their standard rates when we are working with a family through this program.
Birth Rates: $500 (includes two prenatal visits and 1 postpartum visit and attending the birth) Postpartum Rates: $20/hour (1-2 hour visits)
We need your help! Instead of your Friends Donation, we are hoping you will share our commitment to accessible doula care by contributing to our fund. (Unfortunately, as of now, we cannot offer tax deduction for your donations). The "perk" for your donations is recognition on our website, as well as knowing that you have provided an invaluable service to community members who need support.
Suggested Amounts: $1500 - 3 births $1000 - 2 births $500 - 1 birth or 25 hours of postpartum care $100 - 5 hours of postpartum care
