Type of Doula and Focus of Care: I offer non-bias birth doula support for individuals and families that are preparing for childbirth in and out of the home.
General Structure of Doula Services: My job is to help you prepare for welcoming your new baby into your life and making sure you feel in control and supported during your labor process. My adaptive services can be tailored as needed. I typically meet with my client and their partner (if applicable) two to three times before the birth to discuss; the birth plan, to address any concerns you might have, strategize for pain management, discuss where the birth is most likely to take place, who you want to be there, the back up plan etc.. As your personal doula, I will also be available via phone or email for emotional support and/or to provide evidence-based information. As we get closer to the birth (2-3 weeks prior to your due date), I will then be on call 24/7 in case of emergency or the onset of labor. During labor, I will provide unconditional support based on our conversations in our previous meetings.
After the birth, we will set up one-two postpartum meetings (more if requested) to check in about the birth as well as answer any questions you might have. Part of my role as your doula is to ensure that you have the tools you need to start this new part of your life feeling supported by your community.
Postpartum, If you are thinking of hiring a postpartum doula I can help find a good fit along with any other specialists that you might need.
Why are you a Doula? I have always been fascinated with public health/medicine, which led me to focus my undergrad studies on reproductive health. In 2017, I went for a semester abroad in the Czech Republic to study reproductive health and unexpectedly was offered the opportunity to assist at births in the local hospital. In a way, life had been preparing me to walk down this path long before I ever opened a childbirth related textbook. Though I had never worked in a hospital before, the second I met my first client, I knew that I belonged in this line of work.
Watching the birth of a new being changed everything about how I approach pain, love, struggle, and success in my own life. Childbirth, like many of life's teachers can be intimidating but the reward of that knowledge and experience is one of the most powerful. Each birth/person requires different tactics and skills to be successful, therefore this job is never boring and always full of surprises. Labor is not a set journey, which means there are always more lessons to learn; acceptance; letting go; asking for help; believing in yourself. It is exciting and challenging, what more could you ask of life? It is my goal to work with my clients to embrace the unknown and use evidence-based knowledge to enhance that exploration in the safest way possible. Fee Structure: Sliding scale $500-800
